Using MSMI - Step By Step

In order to run MSMI you must first click on either search output or a database in the output pane, and then use any one of the following methods:

Once you have run MSMI, you will be presented with the following wizard:

STEP 1: Select the criteria to base the MSMI on

The first step of the wizard is to define what data you want to perform your MSMI on.

It is a good idea to refine the data as much as possible before performing the MSMI, in order to speed up the process. In the above example the network 'VINASAT-1A' is used. I have also only asked for Coordination Request data. This is usually a good idea when performing MSMI reports.

The Wizard will automatically add any criteria from the selected item in the output pane. For this reason it is a good idea to refine your search using SatQuery before running the MSMI. You can however edit the criteria from here also.

STEP 2:  Select carrier and interference types to include

In this step you can firstly select the types of carriers you wish to include in the report. Usually you will wish to include them all.

Secondly you can select the interference types to include in the report. If you select 'Main Lobe' only the most interfering and most sensitive carriers with respect to the main lobe will be selected. Likewise, if 'Side Lobe' is selected, only the most interfering and most sensitive carriers with respect to the side lobe will be selected. If you select both, both types will be included in the report.

If you select 'Include all carriers' all carriers will be output not just the most interfering and most sensitive. This is can be useful if a carrier you wish to examine is not automatically picked up.

Lastly the 'Version 4 Database' checkbox needs to be checked if you are attempting to perform the MSMI on a version 4 ITU database file. All database files created by the ITU after November 2004 are version 5 database files.

STEP 3: Classifying carriers

MSMI will automatically classify every carrier into one of the following types:

You can move the carriers around if you wish them to be classified differently. Just select the carrier you wish to move, and use the up and down arrow on the right hand side to move the carrier about.

Any carriers moved into the 'Removed' item will not be used in the MSMI.

STEP 4: Problems with the data (optional)

If there are any problems with the data they will appear here.

Any item which is in bold must be resolved before continuing. Items can be resolved by clicking on them and either choosing to ignore them, or resolve them using the buttons on the right hand side. If you choose to resolve the problem you must enter the value which is missing.

Items which are not in bold are problems with the data which MSMI has attempted to solve. You can change the value MSMI will use by clicking on the item and using the buttons on the right hand side.

Within each item is data to try to help you resolve the problem.

STEP: 5: File format

Next you can select the format you wish your output to take. If you wish to copy and paste from MSMI to C/I Interference Analysis Tool then it is best to output to a CSV format file.

STEP 6: Finishing

You have now finished the wizard, and can click on Finish. MSMI will now construct the MSMI report you specified.
